Another PDP chairman sent to prison

EFCC zonal office in Lagos on Friday, June 29, 2018, summoned the pair of Clement Faboyede, Chairman, Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Modupe Adetokunbo, a former Director-General, Goodluck Jonathan/Namadi Sambo 2015 Presidential Election Campaign in Ondo, before Justice Saliu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a three-count charge verging on tax evasion to the tune of N500 million (Five Hundred Million Naira).

One of the counts states: ” That you, Clement Faboyede, Modupe Adetokunbo and others on the run, approximately the 27th day of March, 2015 in Nigeria inside the ward of this Honorable Court, planned among yourselves to collect money payment of the whole of N500,000,000(Five Hundred Million Naira just), which surpassed N5,000,000(Five Million Naira) without going through any financial or budgetary organization in contrary to segment 18 and culpable under segment 16(2) of the Money Laundering (prohibited) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No.1 of 2012)”‎.

They pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them. In perspective of their plea, the prosecuting councel, E.E. Iheanacho, approached the court for a preliminary date and implored the court to remand the respondents in jail. Be that as it may, advice to the respondents made an oral application for bail on behalf of them.

Justice Saidu after listening to both counsel guided the defense counsel to make a formal application for the bail of the respondents. The Judge likewise requested the respondents to be remanded in jail.
