How Ortom was marketed to PDP NEC by Iyorchia Ayu, David Mark, Emmanuel Agbo
Nigerian Concord Newspaper
Nigerian Concord newspaper can authoritatively report how a former senate president, Iyorchia Ayu, marketed the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, to the PDP National Executive Committee with lies that he was the best material the party could field for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Two other people who joined Iyorchia Ayu in the plot according to information were Senator David Mark and PDP deputy national secretary, Emmanuel Agbo.
Recall that it was Iyorchia Ayu that fraudulently collected a sum of N350 million from the former NSA, Colonel Dasuki Sambo, with an agreement to do security consultancy for the Goodluck Jonathan-led federal government prior to the 2015 general elections.
According to insiders, the plan was perfected during the time the leader of the party in Benue state and former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, was put in detention by the DSS.
The sources noted that Governor Samuel Ortom, having realized that the leader of the APC in the state, Senator George Akume, had settled for NEPZA maganing director, Emmanuel Jime, as the party’s flagbearer, had met with Ayu on how he could be marketed to the PDP NEC, and it was agreed that two petitions be sent by Gemade and Udende to the DSS against Suswam so as to enable them perfect the plans while Suswam would be in detention.
Recalled that Suswam was invited by the DSS and detained for about three weeks before a high court judge in Abuja granted him a bail.
While Suswam was in detention, Iyorchia Ayu, having being given N100 million as bribe by Governor Ortom, met with Emmanuel Agbo on how they could both assist the governor to be given an automatic ticket in the PDP.
On his own, Agbo told Ayu the impossibility to carry out with the plans successfuly without the backing of Senator David Mark being the only leader of the party in Benue state in the absence of Gabriel Suswam who was in detention at that time.
It was gathered that Senator David Mark was immediately given a sum of N100 million bribe when he agreed to the plan to deceive the PDP NEC into imposing Ortom on the party in the state. Emmanuel Agbo too was given N50 million for his contribution.
Before Suswam left the DSS detention, Governor Ortom who was parading Abuja on daily basis was taken to Rivers state governor, Nyemson Wike, PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, and some corrupt elements within the party’s NEC for a briefing.
At the secret meeting which wasn’t official, Iyorchia Ayu, David Mark and Emmanuel Agbo lied to Wike, Secondus and others that Suswam wasn’t popular in the state any longer, hence they wanted the party to consider Ortom as its candidate in 2019.
According to insiders, Wike told Ortom that he believed so much in David Mark, and a deal of N2 billion was entered into.
“Ortom paid them N2 billion at that meeting as the price to get an automatic ticket in the party but before paying the money, they all agreed that the state EXCOS of the party would be dissolved and Ortom would be given 60% of the new excos when constituted” one of the sources said.
