The media house responsible for publishing the video of Lai Muhammed saying the FG spends over N3.5 million to feed Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has apologised to the Minister

In its apology published online, OAK TV said the minister spoke off the record, but somehow the clip found its way to the internet. The apology stated that it has sanctioned its reporters for breach of journalism code of ethics, as the minister had spoken off record with the reporters.

In the video that went viral on social media, Lai Mohammed told journalists he was speaking off record and said. “The issue of whether, where he (Mr El-Zakzaky) is, at least let’s keep it off record, that he is in a residence and you know eating at the. It costs the government about N3.5 million every month to feed him”.

*. The federal government says it will increase power generation to 9,000 megawatts by the end of 2018. Lai Mohammed, minister of information, made this known on Tuesday while speaking at a NAN Forum in Abuja. The minister said the government will add 2,000 megawatts to the current 7,000 capacity. Mohammed said the government will also embark on 90 power transmission projects nationwide to further raise power generation capacity.

1. FOREIGN SCENE:
A SENIOR French government Minister has claimed Europe won’t allow the US to become “trade policeman of the world” in a dramatic outburst as he argued Europe should defy President Trump over Iran sanctions. The comments were made by Bruno Le Maire, French economy minister, during an interview with the Financial Times.
He claimed: “Europe refuses to allow the US to be the trade policeman of the world.” President Trump pulled the US out of the nuclear deal Mr Obama signed with Iran in 2015 and has reimposed a range of economic sanctions.

2. PRESIDENCY:
PRESIDENT Mohammadu Buhari, Thursday in Abuja challenged the African Parliamentary Union (APU) to develop strategies to assist governments to confront the menace of terrorism, armed banditry and other organised crimes that have continued to beset the member states of the African Union.
President Buhari who is the Chairperson of ECOWAS stated that the proliferation of arms aided by abuse of the ease of movement of persons across freer borders to encourage unity, has given rise to acts of terrorism by groups like All Shaabab, ISIS and Boko Haram.

President Buhari came face-to-face with Bukola Saraki, for the first time since July, three months after he dumped the president’s ruling APC for PDP. The two met during the 41st Conference and 73rd Executive Committee session of African Parliamentary Union (APU) in Abuja on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Both leaders were all smiles as they shook hands and posed for photos before the president declared the event open with the President of ECOWAS Commission, Jeane Cloude Brou, and Chairperson APU committee, Rt. 4. JUDICIARY:
Over 120 lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria, have expressed   their interest  in  defending the 19 persons arrested in connection with the murder of  a former Nigerian Army Chief of Administration, Gen. Mohammed Alkali. The revelation came as the accused filed their bail application on Wednesday before Justice Daniel Longji of a Plateau State High Court in Jos. Lawyer for  the accused, Gyang Zi, told The  PUNCH that the application was filed following the earlier arraignment of the accused on two counts to  which they had all pleaded not guilty.

5. TRADITIONAL INSTITUTION:
It has been a long time in the making, but prominent Igbo monarchs have vowed to abolish the Osu caste system across all parts of Southeast Nigeria by December 28. The event is expected to bring together key Igbo traditional rulers to Nri Palace in Anambra for procession and spiritual nullification of the controversial practice. The practice started in some ancient Igbo societies where the Osu were a people dedicated to the gods as an atonement for an abominable act; and the Ohu were those born or sold into slavery.

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole suddenly left the country early morning yesterday in the midst of the furore caused by his interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday and Monday, Daily Trust learnt from top party sources last night. Daily Trust also learnt that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State secured bail for Oshiomhole from DSS after he underwent nine hours of interrogation on Sunday and for several hours again on Monday.

The governments of the United States of America and France are interested in Nigeria Air, the Federal Government announced on Thursday. It also dismissed claims that the process for the establishment of the national carrier was suspended due to the lack of investors. The minister outlined ready investors in the national carrier to include the African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, the governments of the United States and France, among others.

8. TRAGEDY:
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has said that a passenger scheduled to travel out of the country on Wednesday morning slumped and died at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos . It was learnt that the passenger, who bears thesame name with Senator Ademola Adeleke, had yet to check in when the incident occurred. The family of Sen. Ademola Adeleke who is the candidate of PDP has said that the passenger who died at the Lagos airport just bear same name with the gubernetorial candidate.
