Hassan Saleh Battles Ujah Over SDP House of Reps Ticket…
According to a authoritative report, few days after losing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election ticket for Ado, Okpokwu & Ogbadibo Federal Constituency to Hon. Francis Ottah Agbo, the incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon. Hassan Anthony Saleh is battling to hijack the SDP House of Reps ticket for the constituency from Comrade Adoyi Ujah.
Comrade Adoyi Ujah, popularly known as Dr. West, duly purchased the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2019 general elections and thereafter emerged winner at the party’s primary election as declared by the returning officer for the election as stipulated by the laws.
However, in what looked like an act of desperation to contest the 2019 elections, nnrnews.com learnt Wednesday afternoon that the defeated incumbent member, Mr. Hassan Saleh is frantically frustrating efforts by Dr. West’s campaign team in Abuja to get their principal’s return certificate despite being legitimately declared winner by the SDP electoral committee that conducted the Ado, Okpokwu & Ogbadibo Federal Constituency (House of Reps) primary election.
If you may recall, Mr. Hassan Saleh, the incumbent member representing the constituency won his first election in 2011 after being introduced into politics by Nigeria’s former Interior Minister, Comrade Abba Moro. Mr. Saleh sought for a second term ticket but lost the 2014 PDP primary election to Hon. Chris Adaba Abah (Mad Lion) but made his way back to the green chambers through the law Courts.
A source who spoke to our correspondent at the SDP national Secretariat, Abuja Wednesday afternoon said Mr. Saleh earlier in the year declared to contest for the Benue South senate seat but had to dump his party, PDP, after learning of Comrade Abba Moro’s interest to contest for the same position. He said Mr. Saleh joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), aligned with Chief Audu Ogbeh but the romance lasted for just about three months (between April and July this year) and collapse after the APC’s Ward, Local Government and State Congresses turned out against his wishes.
Mr. Saleh then returned to the PDP, abandoned his senatorial ambition, aligned with another senatorial aspirant, Chief Mike Onoja, against Comrade Abba Moro who brought him to limelight, and declared to contest for the House of Reps (Ado, Ogbadibo and Okpokwu Federal Constituency) for 3rd term. His aspiration was however turned down during the last PDP primary election, when he (Saleh) was defeated by Hon. Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo while his new ally, Chief Mike Onoja was also beaten by Comrade Abba Moro.
Angered by the outcome of the PDP primary election, Hassan and Chief Onoja left the PDP and pitched tents with the fledgling Social Democratic Party (SDP). Unknown to Saleh, Chief Mike Onoja, despite being in the PDP also purchased his second senatorial nomination forms through his nephew who’s a chieftain of the SDP as plan B -should the PDP senate primaries go contrary to his wishes.
It was at this point that Mr. Saleh knew he was in a fix and needed to do everything possible to get his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2019 general elections. Then he allegedly approached the SDP candidate for the constituency, Comrade Adoyi Ujah (Dr. West) through another SDP chieftain and offered to buy the youthful flagbearer with a whooping N20 Million to hand him, Saleh, the ticket.
Troubles however started after the said meeting ended in deadlock as Adoyi Ujah unflinchingly rejected the offer while telling Mr. Saleh’s emissary about his, Adoyi’s resolve to entrench a new political dynasty that would favour everyone in the Idoma land, against the current empire that have turned the Zone C elections to their rights of first refusals.
Since then Saleh and his cronies have been in Abuja, headquarters of the Social Democratic Party, paying their ways to dislodge Adoyi Ujah from being the candidate of the election for the Ado, Okpokwu & Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
As at the time of filing this report, it is not clear if Adoyi Ujah’s name was submitted to the country’s electoral umpire, INEC, or whether the SDP is considering handing the ticket to Hassan Saleh who has been bribing his way into the race.
